Driveway maintenance

A well maintained driveway enhances the appearance of your property and ensures its functionality for years to come. Cleaning and sealing the driveway as well as patching cracks can significantly delay the need for costly repairs and eventual replacement.

Oil stains from drippy cars should be cleaned with detergent and water or a commercial oil stain remover. Car oil left standing on pavement can soften the surface making it prone to cracking and crumbling.

Fill cracks before they get wider with either an asphalt or concrete crack filler. For a paver driveway, remove damaged pavers and repair the base before reinstalling. The weakest parts of your driveway are the edges and should be regularly inspected for damage from traffic, extreme weather and snow removal.

Repairs should be made promptly before the damage escalates into a major problem. Prevent water from pooling on your driveway which can cause winter damage through freezing and thawing.

Extend the lifespan of your driveway by sealing the surface against damage from water, oil and grime. Generally, asphalt driveways should be sealed every 2-3 years, concrete driveways every 4-5 years and a paver driveway every 3-5 years. Follow sealer manufacturer instructions for application and recommendation for resealing.
