How to care for wood-look flooring

To clean any kind of floor, start with vacuuming or sweeping the entire room to remove loose dirt, especially under furniture. Next, use a damp microfibre mop to remove surface dirt and grime with special attention paid to traffic areas. A microfiber mop has great cleaning power, is highly absorbent and can be laundered again and again. Simple damp mopping is often enough to clean surface dirt but for a deep clean, the cleaning method you use will depend on the flooring material. Read below for wood-look flooring cleaning tips. In most cases, you won’t need to rinse. If your floor still looks dull after cleaning, buff with a dry microfibre mop.

Vinyl plank

There are commercial cleaners for vinyl floors or you can use a half cup of distilled white vinegar or apple cider vinegar diluted in a gallon of water. Be sure to wring out the mop so it’s damp and not dripping wet. This solution can also be used in a spray mop.

Engineered

Avoid cleaning products with harsh chemicals. Instead use a commercial hardwood floor cleaner or a small amount of liquid dish soap in a bucket of warm water. When mopping, always follow the grain of the wood and wring out any excess water.

Laminate

To clean laminate flooring avoid harsh cleaners. Instead, use a small amount of liquid dish soap in a bucket of warm water. Wring out your mop so it’s almost dry and avoid water pooling on the laminate surface. Laminate flooring can be damaged by water unless it has been specifically engineered to resist water.
