If you’re looking to refresh your holiday decor or add a creative DIY touch, here are four budget-friendly ways to transform your space into a festive winter wonderland.

Chalked ultra matte paint

A great way to update old Christmas decorations is to give them a coat of paint in the same colour. Shown here are decorations painted in an unexpected flat black. Grouping them together in a vignette on a tray gives them a bigger style impact. Rust-Oleum Chalked paint has that popular super-matte finish.

Chalk Board paint

Painting a feature wall with Rust-Oleum Chalk Board paint allows you to get creative and draw a Christmas message to your guests directly on the wall. Look for wording inspiration from your favourite Christmas carols.

3M Command Hooks

One of the best products to use for Christmas decorating are Command hooks by 3M. You can hang whatever you want wherever you want without having to worry about damaging surfaces with nails or tacks. Hooks are available in assorted sizes and weight capacities for indoor and outdoor use and can be easily removed after the Holidays.

Scrap lumber tree

Every DIYer has a pile of scrap lumber saved somewhere and an easy way to use it up is to make it into a 3D wooden Christmas tree. Start with a galvanized pipe or wood dowel for the centre structure and attach to a solid wood base. The size of the pipe or dowel you start with will be the height of the tree. Cut pieces of wood in descending sizes to make up the tree shape and drill a hole in the centre of each board. Assemble and either leave bare or decorate with Christmas balls and tacks.
